Larissa and John are two very brave people having their wedding in late November at the Oregon coast- it can definitely be a roll of the dice. The weather, though a bit on the chilly side, was in a good mood and we were able to get some nice portraits on the beach after the ceremony.
The two were married in the charming Community Presbyterian Church, a cozy little building with lots of windows and warm wood paneling. The reception was held at the Surfsand Resort- great room, great food, and right on the beach by Haystack Rock.
This was another great wedding that I shot in cooperation with Valls Photographic- as always it was a treat to photograph. Every year I shoot 3 or 4 weddings with them and I love the arrangement. I was only at Kris and Joe’s wedding for four hours but boy did we make the most of it. I met Kris when she was designing for Icon Motosports- she art directed a couple of the shoots I did for them (click here to see a slideshow of some of them)- and she was happy to have a photographer shoot her wedding who she already knew and trusted.
All the days events took place at the Acadian Ballroom on Alberta Street in NE Portland. It’s a beautiful venue inside but it can be challenging to find outdoor locations without hopping into a car.
There were a lot of laughs and tears at this wedding- I was happy to be a part of it.

Julie and Jeremy were a great couple to work with- both of them are very creative and are surrounded by a great group of family and friends.
The ceremony and reception were held at EcoTrust- a great space in the heart of the Pearl. It’s also just a quick, scenic walk to Jamison Square and Tanner Springs Park, where we were able to grab a few portraits.
After an evening of great food, rockin’ music, and heartfelt toasts Julie and Jeremy headed out on their honeymoon via pedicab.

I always enjoy traveling for weddings- I love the new locations and challenges that it provides. It also helps when the setting is one of the most beautiful spots in southern Oregon- The Steamboat Inn on the Umpqua River.
The Steamboat Inn has special meaning for Eric and Carmen and so they thought it a perfect place for their intimate ceremony and reception. The ceremony was held in the garden overlooking the river while dinner was held in the rustic dining room of the main lodge.
My only regret was that I had to leave at 5:30 the next morning (the first image was a long exposure shot at dawn before I left- I needed a flashlight to get into position). I would have really liked to have a little more time to enjoy the beauty and relaxed pace at Steamboat. I’ll be back though…

It was a lot of fun being with Beth and Nate on this very hot August day. They and their guests were a very happy and energetic crowd to be around- they certainly kept me on my toes.
Beth and Nate got ready in the beautiful rooms of the Governor Hotel- Beth’s room in particular had beautiful light (request a corner room- lots of windows and space). The ceremony was at The Old Church- great atmosphere but be aware it can get a bit warm during the summer months.
After a touching ceremony we headed up to the World Forestry Center in Washington Park. This is a great event space that often gets overlooked.

There are a few options available to you if you’re hoping to have an outdoor wedding in downtown Portland, the rooftop terrace at EcoTrust or the The Chinese Garden come to mind, but as far as I know there is only one space available with 360 degree views of downtown including the Willamette River, the Pearl District and Mt. Hood. Where is this magical location? Well it’s a SmartPark of course- the rooftop at the Station Place SmartPark to be specific.
Sara and Jeremy had a wonderful vision for the top level of the structure and with the help of Wilf’s Restaurant and Catering and West Coast Event Productions they transformed it into a beautiful, unique site for their ceremony and reception.

This is the third year in a row that I’ve had the pleasure of taking Kate’s birthday portrait. I always enjoy having the opportunity to photograph the same child in successive years- it’s amazing how much they grow and develop in such a short time.
Happy Birthday Kate! Can’t wait to see you next year.
